Manureva Aquafest

A five day international watersports festival celebrating the ocean and culture of the Cook Islands

Set in one of the world’s most beautiful lagoons surrounding the South Pacific island of Aitutaki, Manureva Aquafest is hosted by the Cook Islands Kitesurfing Association and is also recognised by Cook Islands Tourism as one of their “Top 3 Signature Events”.

Each year, Manureva Aquafest brings together local and international competitors who showcase the unique conditions of the Aitutaki lagoon – pristine aqua blue water, warm and flat, perfect for freestyle, racing and big air kitesurfing, as well as Oe Vaka outrigger canoe and stand up paddleboard (SUP) races.

Join us in paradise – you’ll be rewarded with the unique experience filled with exhilarating, action packed watersports, blended with the traditions and culture of the Cook Islands.  Manureva Aquafest is for anyone with a love for the ocean and ocean sports; making it perfect for participants and spectators to enjoy.

Etau Leverd

In memory of Tetuatau Leverd

In special honour of our 2014 Manureva Aquafest waterman of the year, we dedicated our 2016 event to Tetuatau Leverd, who sadly passed away in 2015.  His love for the ocean and contribution to watersports in the South Pacific inspired all who had the privilege to know him and kite with him.  We hope his memory will continue to inspire everyone who visits the Cook Islands.

International Guests

  • Jesse Richman

    Jesse Richman

Describing himself as “Two times Kitesurfing World Champion on a quest for any and every way to have fun through an intense adrenaline rush” few have dominated the sport (or nailed as many death-defying stunts) as Jesse during his decade long career as a professional athlete. Pro rider for Team Naish, 2013 Red Bull King of the Air and making kitesurfing history with the first successful kitesurfing barrel at Jaws, Maui; Jesse is always pushing the limits of extreme kitesurfing. He also ranks the Cook Islands as one of his favourite places to kite.
  • Ewan Jaspan

    Ewan Jaspan

Ewan is Australasia’s number one kitesurfing freestyle champion and pro rider for Team Naish. Pushing himself to new levels, Ewan is on a winning streak, recently securing top rankings in the National Kitesurfing League state event, the National Australian/NZ Finals as well as the Victorian State Titles. Ewan has recently been riding and judging in Egypt and France and training in Turkey for the Triple S. Ewan rates Brazil as the best place to train but says: “Aitutaki is also one of my favourite places to ride, the wind may not be quite as relentless as Brazil, but it’s far more beautiful and kiting there is pretty special. Honeymoon Island is a kite paradise, and there aren’t any places in the world I would rather ride.”
